Small acts, when multiplied by millions of people, can transform the world.
Howard Zinn
Education without any extra curricular activities is like feeding the brain without feeding the soul. The main aim of education is to gain knowledge so that we become good human beings with moral values, who are not only versatile but are also multitalented. Keeping this in mind, the SUPW program was introduced to the school curriculums in India.
SUPW stands for Socially Useful Productive Work and as you can understand by the name, it is doing something for the community that is useful and productive. It requires us to make active efforts to help other people for the upliftment of humankind. It sparks our innate skill of innovation and creativity and provides a golden opportunity to promote thinking and skillful implementation. It also helps us inculcate and nurture social and moral values and is a great learning experience for us. It helps us to understand our potential and just truly how much we can do to bring about a positive change in our communities. In this way SUPW is beneficial for everyone, as it makes us more responsible and helps in making our society a better place.
The last term of the academic year started with great zeal and enthusiasm and the SUPW showcase commenced in its first week in which students presented the SUPW activities that they had done in the past year. Students in our school have done multiple activities including beach and park cleanups, collection of recyclable materials, mentoring, e-waste collections and donations to people in need and many more. SUPW activities also included programmes like ‘Adopt a Grandparent’ in which students “adopted” grandparents, talked to them and supported them with much-needed love and care. Another programme, ‘Modernation’, included the donation of clothes and other items to the needy, while ‘HOPE’ provided donations for all the single mothers who face hardships and difficulties.
To conclude, SUPW is an initiative that leads to the growth of humanity and celebrates the JOY OF GIVING.
