Jai Ho! This is our Indian cry of pride. Does the Indian National Anthem cause a sensation of immense warmth and compassion in you? Don’t love and pride gush into your hearts?

Yes, this is the exact feeling of pleasure when one hears about their nation or something relating to it. I’m an Indian – a proud Indian. Wherever I go, India is my honour, India is my dignity and India is my identity. I’m India’s representative too. When I walk, talk, or present anything anywhere, I also represent the voice of my country. Therefore, this Republic Day, I decided to write about my nation – INDIA!

26th January is a very important date in the Indian calendar. Republic Day marks the transition of India from a monarchy-cum-colony to a sovereign democratic republic! This day in history was the celebration of the empowerment of Indian citizens to select their government and the establishment of the first Indian constitution. Since then, this historic day is marked with Golden Letters in India’s rich and eventful history.

What we’re talking about is the country of greatest history; a country that has imbibed its footprint in every corner of the world. A country of picturesque beauty, diversity, culture, heritage, and tradition- the very diadem of our pride. Our country’s legacy has left us bonded as one; Like the little precious gems that make up the most beautiful crown.

“At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom!” – Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru

It fills my heart with pride and delight and so will it for you, so let’s together say, “JAI HIND!”

Happy 73rd Indian Republic Day!

– Pragati Rajesh, 9F
