Spread the love

I remained too much inside my head and ended up losing my mind.’

– Edgar Allen Poe

Two hundred years later and Edgar Allen Poe’s works have still stood the test of time as on the 18th of April, the students and teachers of the Drama Club headed over to ‘The Junction’, to watch, ‘One Man Poe’ by Stephen Smith.

Stephen Smith, the ardent actor, brought Poe’s words to life and immersed the budding artists into the gothic world. Horrifyingly bleak and powerfully moving, this performance had literally taken away our breath.

With four Edgar Poe stories on the trot, this was nothing but a ‘macabrathon’. Using his original publications, Smith performed four of the finest and timeless examples of gothic literature at the Fringe. This was also followed by an extremely rewarding and engaging Question-and-Answer session on his theatrical craft.

Experiencing the magic of live performance, learning from seasoned actors, gaining insight into production elements, and inspiring creativity all contribute to the members’ growth as performers and individuals. Moreover, the shared experience of attending a play fosters a sense of community and unity within the drama club.

By exposing students to the power of theater and nurturing their passion for the art form, our drama club attending plays creates lasting memories and lays the foundation for a lifelong appreciation of the transformative power of the performing arts. Being enlightened by this quintessential combination of Poe and Smith, the dramatic souls of Modern had a memorable experience in witnessing such fine standards of drama and are only left with the thought that there’s a theatre in life and life in theatre.
