‘Whether you want to uncover the secrets of the universe, or you just want to pursue a career in the 21st century, computer programming is an essential skill to learn.’- Stephen Hawking.
Software positively impacts our lives in countless ways and it is undoubtedly the key to the future. So, to keep up with this trend, it is crucial that each child learns to code and channels that knowledge to solve problems that will make our lives easier.
An event that was created to satisfy the geeky computer aficionados and to encourage coding novices like me and my friends was – The Modern Hackathon. It was a coding competition where students used the coding skills to solve higher level problems and most importantly to acquire the essential skills along the way.
The event was held on 26th May, 2022 , comprising of 11 teams, with three members each. The rounds consisted of 5 coding questions, each increasing progressively in difficulty, with the final question carrying the most points. The questions represented real life scenarios such as Validating Credit Card Numbers, Chess Board and more. Participants were given an hour to solve the questions. The only programming languages allowed were ‘Java’ and ‘Python’.
This being my team’s first coding competition, I was nervous considering the level of competition we were up against. However, I think it is safe to say that our team put forth our A-game and we were able to achieve much more than we thought we would.
In conclusion, the Hackathon was a very exciting initiative, and I not only had a lot of fun in solving the challenging questions but also learnt various skills that would help me develop and refine my coding skills like logical thinking, efficient problem solving and providing quick responses.
The Hackathon was a wonderful event that gave us a slight taste of how challenging but rewarding real time coding can be and helped me improve on my programming fundamentals. “-Vihaan Parekh 10G
The winners will be declared after the exams and there will be very special prizes for the top 3 teams so stay tuned!
