‘All good things come to an end some day.’
The Children’s Day celebration for Grade 10 on 11th November kicked off with the performance of the play The Shadow Box. It was put together by the ICSE Drama students of Grade 10 as their marked practical for 50% of their total Drama percentage.
The Shadow Box is a Tony Award winning play written by actor Michael Cristofer. It made its Broadway debut on March 31, 1977. The play takes place over 24 hours, in three separate cottages on the grounds of a large hospital. Within three cabins are three patients: Joe, Brian and Felicity, who are to live with their respective families as they have reached the end of their treatment. They have agreed to be part of a psychological programme where they live within the hospital grounds and have interviews with a psychiatrist, discussing matters of everyday life and inevitable death.
The Grade 10 Drama students created an adaptation of this full-length play, shortening it down to about 20 minutes. Under the creative eye of Director Kevin Oliver and Assistant Director/Drama Teacher Sheldon Dias, the Shadow Box cast was able to create magic on stage, which was certainly memorable and appreciated by every single audience member.
