Poetry isn’t just words put together in a rhyme, it’s a collection of emotions penned into delicate phrases that follow a rhythm. But sometimes these words come together to create masterpieces or the next famous songs. This is the aspect of poetry we focused on during the four sessions of Poetica 2.0.
No topic can be started straight without basics and so the first two sessions were spent engaging with the students on types of poetry, figures of speech and creating their own pieces. That’s right, our batch of sixty students from grades 6 and 7 carefully crafted their first ever haikus and odes. The next two session were more contemporary – learning blackout poetry and how to rewrite songs. In the process we discovered some talented singers and artists out there.
Overall, we came with a thought of sharing with them all our knowledge of poetry but really ended up learning so much whether it be an Ode to Water or a haiku on A Yellow, School Bus. These sessions showed me a new perspective for writing poems and I’m sure, my team comprising of Sneha Bansal, Lavya Gurnani and Meghna Naveen of grade 10 would agree.
I am definitely looking forward to other such sessions in the future because truly there are some young poets in the making. Below is a glimpse of their journey and we hope to see more glimpses as they reach their destination.
