“Lockdown, Locks, Lights, Out of Sight” , ‘The Rabbits are Eating the Carrots’ These were 2 patent calls heard at the P.A. system during the regular drills that were carried out at Modern with Ms. Celine Rebeiro at the helm of the entire Lockdown Drill Process. At the end of 15 minutes, students and teachers would come out of class smiling, saying ‘Phew, Lockdown Drill is over!’ Did any of us ever imagine that the word ‘Lockdown’ would be taken as seriously across the globe as it is today?

I am Fatema Poonawala, Senior French Teacher with about 16 years of experience at Modern. Travel, cultural events, ACE program, Assistant Supervisor (Grades 9 and 10) are some of the assignments I have handled during my tenure. Graduate in Economics and Post-Graduate in French, I have done all my studies in Pune. Ironically, my last name I got only after marriage, when we settled in Mumbai 🙂

Languages have been my passion ever since I was a kid. To be able to converse with whoever I came across was my intent of learning any language. Exploring languages as and when I got time gave me the privilege to know 9 languages fluently. In my cospolitan neighbourhood in Maharashtra, Pune, I would love to connect to all lingos and dialects.

Writing short stories, plays are my past-time too. I love to put up skits for children during Children’s Day, it is amazing how we put up all that drama in a matter of hours.

My daughters Ummesalamah and Insiyah are my best stress-busters. Exploring unknown lands and new found recipes is what I love to do in my free time. Prayer and Positivity bring Prosperity and Propensity to my life. People dream to travel; my dream…is to help them realize their dreams. And if the destination is Makkah…can I be of any help to realize your dream.?
