‘Humor by far, the most significant activity of human brain.’

Brain, what is it?

Have we ever wondered about the power our brain has?

Our brains do not finish growing physically until we are 25 years of age, but they continue to keep changing forever.

This property of change in neural pathways and synapses is called neuroplasticity or brain plasticity. In simple words, it is the ability of brain to restructure itself. It forms new neural connections throughout life whenever you learn a new task or try to do things in a different way.

  • Brain has the power to store 1 petabyte which is equal to 20 million four- drawer filing cabinets filled with text, 13.3 years of HD-TV recordings, 4.7 million books or 670 million web pages!!
  • This organ with 100 billion neurons never gets tired. We should be proud that! It would actually take us more than 3,000 years to count all of them!
  • This 3-pound tool in humans, weighs 20 pounds (9kgs) in a sperm whale!
  • Multitasking is actually impossible. When we think we are multitasking, we are context-switching. That is, we are quickly switching back-and-forth between different tasks, rather than doing them at the same time.
  • It has the capacity to generate approximately 23 watts of power when awake, which is enough to glow a lightbulb.
  • Dreams are believed to be a combination of imagination, phycological factors, and neurological factors. This proves that your brain is working even when you are sleeping.

This complex machine has boundless power, you just need to believe it…

Creativity involves breaking out of established patterns to look at things in a different way. Our brain is a ‘work in progress’ thing, it never stops the neuroplasticity training and that is how are acts gradually become a new habit.

Ways to increase and harness the power of neuroplasticity:

Be curious: Curiosity may have killed that cat, but it created super important things like electricity and computers!

Exercise: Stay fit and healthy!

Get enough sleep: Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise

Meditate: We all need a bit of peace.

Eat healthy: Try eating more fruits and vegetables, especially the ones which help boost your immune system. E.g.- Oranges.
