“The best way to predict the future is to create it “- Abraham Lincoln
As we are each closer to our future; amongst all the marvellous opportunities, extracurriculars and initiatives; one perilous question plagues all of us. What do you want to be in the future?
On hearing this, a third of us would stammer or hesitate and some would get a migraine from the number of options running through their head. Even if we have our life planned out; people will throw an array of daggers at us like “Which college are you targeting? “, “How will you qualify for a scholarship?”, “What field are you going into? “, “Do you even have enough accolades? “, and just like that our dreams crumble into the sea of life’s everyday increasing anxiety!
Well, that’s exactly where career counselling comes in! GMA has forever been a place that aims to guide and support its’ students through every step of their learning journey. In line with this vision, they invited Aaron Fuchs, the CEO, and Co-founder of iXperience, to brief all the senior school students on career options.
To start, he took us back in time and shared his journey from being a confused yet hopeful and determined student in Capetown, South America to getting a scholarship at Yale. While on campus, the university provided him with $250,000 to engineer a race car with his friends as an undergrad project. While pursuing engineering, he found his true passion in business, moved to New York, and joined a respected, Hedge Fund, on the world-renowned, Wall Street. With all this experience under his belt, he finally launched his own company to help students around the world find their passion and achieve their goals. He inspired all of us with his motto “Life will always throw hurdles and sometimes choices can be difficult, but with determination and resilience the sky is the limit!”
Through the Q & A we embarked on how we can build our career paths, explore opportunities, stand out from the crowd, and holistically demonstrate our qualities to colleges. This session was quite informative and engaging due to the diverse perspective and insightful answers to every question.
To end, he briefed us on their IX_Launchpad program, a career exploration, and micro internship program, which is designed to give an insightful glimpse into careers such as “Web Development”, “UI/UX Design”, “Blockchain Technology” and many more.
In a nutshell, finding the right career has become extremely challenging in the current circumstances due to the extensive spectrum of courses, professions, viewpoints, and our very own flickering minds. I highly appreciate the school for giving us exposure to courses like these, because sometimes, to find your passion, all you need is a little bit of real-world experience, a project that will force you to think critically, the right guidance, and soon, you will discover the yellow brick road to your dreams!
