Plastic pollution has become one of the most dreadful environmental issues, as rapidly increasing production of disposable plastic products overwhelms the world’s ability to deal with them. Plastic pollution is most visible in developing Asian and African nations, where garbage collection systems are often inefficient or nonexistent.
Every year, about 8 million tons of plastic waste escapes into the oceans from coastal nations. That’s the equivalent of setting five garbage bags full of trash on every foot of coastline around the world.
Plastics often contain additives making them stronger, more flexible and durable. But many of these additives can extend the life of products if they become litter, with some estimates ranging to at least 400 years to break down.
Usage of plastics has endless repercussions which can prove to be extremely harmful to humanity. Hence, we must all try our best to recycle as much plastic as we can. Fortunately, we have an amazing initiative which has started right here in our school, to help the cause.
The students of Grade 9 have started an incredible initiative related to recycling plastic bottles. This initiative sets an example for other people about how they can recycle their plastic wastes to take a small step towards going green and keeping the communities around us and the environment clean.
There will be two cardboard boxes outside each supervisor’s office – one for plastic bottles and the other for paper waste. This drive will last from the 1st of October to the 5th of November. The goal of this initiative is to collect 250kg of plastic and paper waste, all of which will be sent for recycling.
Let us all contribute to this initiative and take a small step towards helping Mother Nature and going green.
