Social Media Fever

Most people with access to the internet are on some social media platform or the other. Social media is a great way to reconnect with old friends, share your thoughts and opinions, promote socially useful initiatives and many other things. However, social media is being used for purposes other than these, which are sometimes unethical and unlawful. Many people also end up getting addicted to certain apps on social media, which is not healthy. Social media is a whole new world and a very powerful medium, and even kids have an account on Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, etc. Hence, kids and teenagers need to know when exactly they are ready to handle the complexity and the power of social media.

Social media can become an addiction for most people who use it. You should be able to analyze how much time you spend on social media and balance it with your work/studies and relationships. It is advisable to avoid spending your “me-time” on social media and practice something else, like a hobby. Don’t let social media control you.

You must acquaint yourself with the cyber laws of your region and must know cyber etiquette. You can’t just post anything you want or comment anything under someone else’s post. You must research and acquaint yourself with the cyber laws of your country and region and also with the community guidelines, so that you don’t post/comment anything that is unlawful. You must also know social media etiquette. This basically includes not being disrespectful to anyone, not hurting other’s feelings, not being offensive through your posts, etc. Think before you post anything. Ask yourself: does this offend anyone or any group of people? Am I adhering to the community guidelines? Is this really relevant? You must also think before commenting under someone’s post. Ask yourself the same questions. Don’t be rude and criticize anyone in a way which will put them down. Maybe you can tell them in a polite way what mistake they are making and give them ideas/solutions to work on their mistakes.

To sum it all up, keep yourself disciplined on social media.
