Today’s Educator’s Corner features one of the most invigorating teachers of the school – Mr. Anthony Correia.

Interviewing him for this article definitely revealed a new side to his usual stern and intimidating character.

Although he majored in English, he believes that History chose him.

“I’ll be honest, becoming a teacher was not my first choice. Before teaching, I tried a variety of careers including the hotel line, a travel agency and store management,” he stated when we asked him about his interest in teaching. “I realized these careers didn’t interest me much and I had to go for something I felt I’d be passionate about. Soon, I discovered my true passion in teaching.”

Ever since he began teaching, he has never taken a day off. Through teaching, along with his students, he learns and discovers new things everyday. He absolutely enjoys indulging in everyday student drama and is sure to keep up with the daily ‘tea’.

Anthony Sir believes that each child is unique in their own way and he does not discriminate among his students. He says that he doesn’t try to make any rules as such, but instead tries to inculcate moral values in his students.

He often likes to remind his students of their morals through quotes he puts up in his classroom. One of his favourite quotes is, ‘Life is the most difficult exam’. He believes in ‘morals over marks’.

He often encourages his students to follow their hearts and do what is right. Even if there are just a handful of students who can learn these moral values, he feels satisfied. Besides History, he wants to teach his students life skills and discipline.

Often considered as a somewhat humorous teacher, Mr. Correia wishes to break down barriers between his students by creating a friendlier bond with them through humour. He feels that it is a way that the students would more likely accept and comprehend him instead of being firm and stern.

He may not always show it, but he truly adores his students and the time spent with them.
