As I bid farewell to middle school, my parents echoed a familiar refrain: “You’re in grade 9 now, and every day counts.” The weight of senior school importance, with colleges scrutinizing our term 1 results, loomed over me. There was no room for slip-ups; the pressure mounted steadily.
The first day of school seemed a distant dream, and I secretly hoped for its cancellation (a wish that was granted, albeit a week into the term). Surprisingly, the initial school day was not as daunting as I had imagined. While the syllabus demanded attention, there was an array of opportunities and activities waiting to be explored.
The allure of the Duke of Edinburgh award and the eagerly anticipated Freshmen’s Entrepreneurship & Innovation Programme added excitement to the academic rigors. While academics are crucial and demand our best efforts, they need not overshadow everything else. Grade 9 is a transformative phase where we discover ourselves, acknowledging our strengths and weaknesses.
Struggling in a subject, sport, or activity doesn’t spell doom for our future. There’s ample time for growth and learning from mistakes. Although apprehension lingers about the challenges ahead, there’s an equal measure of excitement. I’m certain that this year will unfold like a captivating movie. Here’s wishing all of us the very best for this academic adventure!
