As pupils of a widely venerated institution, the Modern spirit of creativity, eloquence, innovation, determination and global-mindedness resides in all of us. Over the past two weeks, our students have had the opportunity to rise to the occasion and represent themselves and their alma mater in a variety of platforms.
With an influx of student activities, our students have finally settled into their new classes. They were provided with an opportunity to showcase their class unity and friendly rivalry through the Inter Class Debating Competition for Grades 9 and 10. The finale of the Inter Class Debates occurred over the past week with beautiful bouts of verbal sparring observed and appreciated by all.
GEMS Modern Academy has long prided itself on raising global citizens and our students voiced their diverse opinions on two global platforms over the past fortnight. The Generation Global Conference on Wealth and Poverty occurred on 11th May, 2022 where the students participated in an intellectual dialogue on a variety of sub-topics under the vast umbrella that is ‘Wealth and Poverty.’
Furthermore, the Diplomathon Global, an international MUN conference occurred this week after a long wait. Modern was announced the highest scoring school with maximum participation and Vedanth Aggarwal (9F) was announced the best delegate and given the opportunity to author the working paper and resolution.
Honing one’s individual skills is just as important as honing teamwork and cooperation . It was an undeniably proud moment for Shiven Seth as he participated in the Junior National Squash Championship where prestigious players around the globe were invited to play. Shiven’s Gold medal in the U-15 and Bronze in the U-17 was a momentous achievements and a proud moment for Modern.
Lastly, the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Program organized its first session for the current batch of grade 9 where the students from Grade 10 were invited to share their experiences. It was a humbling and inspirational experience for all who attended the assembly. Being a certified incubator, GMA has no shortage of innovators and creative geniuses. I personally cannot wait to observe the results of the second EIP.
And finally, on a personal note – with sunny skies and the hot weather predicted for the coming weeks, I would like to reiterate that we need to consciously make an effort to stay indoors and drink as much fluids as possible. Wearing SPF and bringing a hat to school are simple measures to deal with the rising temperatures.
