Our Freshmen continue to amaze us with their compassion, empathy and good will. Modernation is a donation drive organised by the students of grades 9 and 10. The purpose of this initiative was to collect and donate items to the people in Beirut affected by the blast, thereby providing them with some relief during these extenuating circumstances.
The idea of Modernation is for it to be an ongoing effort that focuses on teamwork as its core factor. The plan is to have at least three different drives every year, each focusing on a different cause, with each cause being led by a new team. In this way, many students get to hold leadership positions and the “good in giving” can be instilled in as many Modernites as possible.
For the first edition of Modernation, donations were collected from the 23rd to the 30th of September, 2020. Both parents and students from grades 9 and 10 contributed to this effort, resulting in 600+ kg of clothes, books, toys and stationery. Over 120 students across grades 9 and 10 contributed, with donations pouring in from students from all over Dubai and Sharjah.
All donations, once received, were segregated by students in school to ensure all donations sent were in suitable condition. Using masks, gloves and sanitizing spray, our volunteers cleaned all items and prepared them for shipping. A whopping 44 cartons of donations were finally sent to Red Crescent, UAE.
With the help of the gmail team gmamodernation@gmail.com and our Instagram team @gma_modernation we were able to reach out to almost all students and parents who had queries or doubts regarding the drive.
To everyone who donated and volunteered, we thank you for your time, support and effort.
Giving is not just about making a donation. It is about making a difference.
