Hobbies are favourite pursuits that keep a person purposefully busy in his leisure time. Reading is a hobby that changes one’s perspective of looking at the world.
“The world opened to me when I learned to read “-Mary McLeod Bethune.
People who have a passion for reading never really feel lonely as books open up a magical world for them.
The educator I spoke to this week is a lady whose history classes are a treat to attend, who knows exactly how to keep her students engaged in her class and her passion for reading is visible in her classroom ,in her style of teaching history, which takes the form of a story. Her love for reading is profound and she carefully selects her books from thrillers like Agatha Christie , to books on Scottish historical romance by Nora Roberts and autobiographies of eminent personalities like Dilip Kumar , Indira Gandhi and Barack Obama …. The list is endless ! She is presently reading an interesting book ‘Sapiens ‘ a brief history of humankind by Yuval Noah Harari ,which she recommends that students must read , apart from Keving Kwan’s series – Crazy Rich Asian, The Rich People Problems and China Rich Girlfriend.
This phenomenal teacher is none other than Ms Hawabibi Choonawala, who also has a ear for music and enjoys melodies sung by Asha Bhonsale and Kishore Kumar and also some recent numbers sung by Arijit Singh and Mohit Chauhan. Her all time favourite from Bollywood is ‘Roobaru’ and ‘Khoon Chala’ from Rang De Basanti and Ronan Keating’s ‘When you say nothing at all’ amongst the Western numbers.
Ms Hawabibi is using her time effectively during the lockdown by learning the Arabic language which will help her understand the Quran in greater depth.
I enjoyed every moment of the rendezvous with this distinguished teacher.
