Welcome to the first edition of the Freshman Chronicles for the academic year 2024-2025! I hope this edition finds you well, and, more importantly, not waterlogged. For those of you who are reading the Freshman Chronicles for the first time and are wondering what it is, the Freshman Chronicles is an e-magazine written by the students of Grades 9 and 10 informing everyone not only of all that we’ve done, but also what’s been happening in our school and our lives in general. I hope you decide to stick around.
This past month has been an absolute rollercoaster of non-stop events. From the eclipse to the storm to the various competitions and assemblies that happened in school, nobody’s been able to catch a break.
Let me start by talking about the eclipse, which happened just 10 days after the new academic term began, on the 8th of April. While not visible from the U.A.E, it was still widely discussed, and, I’ve been told, breathtakingly beautiful.
And just a week after the eclipse—exactly a week, in fact. A coincidence? I think not—there began heavy rainfall which in most places turned into a full-fledged storm. But we, stubbornly refusing to let a little lightning—which touched the tip of Burj Khalifa a couple of times by the way—stop us, we continued our learning online for nearly two weeks.
Weekly extra classes on Saturdays also began around this time for Grade 10 students, reminding them just how hard they must work this year.
When we finally returned to school, there occurred an unusually large number of events for just one week, in large part due to the events that were postponed because of the storm occurring alongside the events that we had originally planned for that week.
There occurred the interschool esports competition hosted by our school, which we lost, which was not least due to one of our players disconnected mid-game. Moving onto more fortunate news though, our inter-house tryouts finally took place for football, chess, and the inter-house quiz. We also had a beautiful assembly that showcased the musical talents of Anag, Aditi, Saanvi, and Areesha, giving us a small taste of how amazing our talent show, Modern’s Got Talent, is going to be.
That’s all from me here at the editor’s desk, and I hope you have a wonderful time reading!
