“Life is only a flicker of melted ice” – Dejan Stojanovic

A great deal has transpired since the last time the Freshman hit your screens. Students across the school have been laboriously giving their examinations, turning the lively hallways scattered with raucous sounds of the usual water cooler fight, into a barren, desolate landscape. How such an overnight transformation takes place, one can only guess.

Like a season of the Simpsons, Exam season never seemed to end. The agility, mental prowess and finesse with which Modernites shift gears to conquer each hurdle of an examination make the prong-horned antelope from Attenborough’s latest season of Our Planet turn green with envy. With the daunting distribution of answer scripts out of the way, exam season had reached its crescendo, hidden in the rearview mirror until the next time it comes around(not too far in hindsight.

In spite of such a turbulent commute through the previous term, this edition of the Freshman captures the vibrant community of GMA’s underclassmen. Our wonderful community of student writers have developed an informative and exciting coverage ranging from the fill to fill.

With term 1 officially over and refreshing holidays in the past, we Modernites have a lot to be grateful for and reflect on. We may have won some battles and lost others. What is poignant to note is what we can learn from our experiences. We may be the heroes of our story, but in
the grand scheme of things, life is never evergreen but rather in constant metamorphosis.

Let us look forward to Term 2 with an air of positivity and a sense of purpose, ready to impart meaning to our lives and rise above the worries of daily life. The students and writers of The Freshman hope that this issue provides an exuberant account of our diverse student community, and that it inspires our readers to inculcate mindfulness in their lives. In the words of Maya Angelou, “Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.”

Thank you for reading, and we hope you enjoy this issue of The Freshman.
