The Role and Impact of Class Councils
In educational institutions, fostering a sense of community and empowering students to actively participate in shaping their school experience is crucial.
Keeping that momentum, the 27th of April was our first monthly class council meeting with the parents. The two parent and student representatives had meaningful discussions and spoke about some of the concerns or issues observed over the first month and remedial measures. There were many positives from the current grade 9 like the enthusiasm of teachers and the number of opportunities being provided. Our supervisor also addressed the parents in a general meeting to enlighten them about the wonderful initiatives and things the ninth graders are currently doing, after which they all moved to the auditorium for a final word of appreciation from the Principal. The points were noted and minuted by the student councils. Most of the problems were even resolved within a week’s time and an update of actionable information was also sent to the parents.
The student council members, besides addressing concerns, also meet every Wednesday to review the progress of classes and update academic and versatility trackers while enjoying some hot chocolate in the conference room.
At Modern, the interaction model of parent feedback, student voice, and teacher recommendation are taken very seriously and this council system acts as the perfect balance and connection between these three significant entities. Students explore the significance of class councils, their functions, and the positive impact they can have on their educational journeys.
