The EVS students of Grades 9 and 10 visited the WETEX exhibition at the Expo 2020 site as part of our Environmental Studies course. The WETEX visit gave us a deeper insight into the topics of innovation in water, energy, technology, oil and gas, the environment, and the rapidly developing solar energy.
We spent four hours at the exhibition learning how different companies are using renewable energy and developing sustainable solutions to depleting resources such as clean water and non-renewable energy.
We saw many new products to improve desalination plants using the energy and cost-efficient process of reverse osmosis. We also saw a model of a pipe system that uses the water flowing through it to generate hydroelectric power. One of our favourites was the EVOCARGO, an autonomous electric/hydraulic vehicle that helps transport goods.
From this experience, we learned that we need to think outside the box to find solutions. And for EVS students, it brought more clarity about the future opportunities we would have in this field. We took away a lot of new knowledge and ideas from this experience and are honoured to have been a part of this visit.
