The class council system has been operational for three years now and has proven to be extremely efficient. Two student representatives and two parent representatives from each class volunteer to represent their class. The student’s job is to list all the issues and problems faced in class by their classmates, while parent representatives list the issues faced by other parents. A meeting is held every month with the class teacher to discuss the issues brought up and how to overcome them, which helps in building a deeper relationship between the students and the teachers. The student body benefits through this channel as their grievances are addressed through their representatives and their voices are heard, empowering them to have a more conscious existence as students at Modern. The students who are involved in the class council develop leadership qualities and learn to take on responsibility. I believe that class councils are unique to Modern and I hope other schools emulate this model to have the same three-way model of effective communication.
