Every artist dips his brush in his own soul and paints his own nature into his pictures.
Henry W Beecher
Painting is about the soul being able to explore and speak when nothing else can. It is a wondrous way to unleash the Picasso or Da Vinci in you. Painting works in tandem with one’s experiences and is an expression of one’s true self in a dream-like vision, bringing together layers of colours, shapes and lines. It is a great way to relax and our educator this week considers it a stress buster that refreshes her after a tiring day. She is a self-taught artist who has been painting since the age of 14 and has created master pieces of ‘Bani Thani’ art that would leave art enthusiasts spellbound! Bani Thani is a Rajasthani style of painting depicting the quintessential Indian beauty who was the mistress of Raja Sawant Singh of Kishangarh.
This educator is our affectionate and kindhearted Ms. Priti Shekhawat, who instils great confidence in her students that helps them excel in Hindi. She loves using Camel water colours for her paintings and uses bright tones like orange and pink.
Ms. Priti also has a passion for Bollywood music of the 80’s, especially songs sung by the Nightingale of India, Lata Mangeshkar. Her favourites are ‘Tera Bina Zindagi Se Koi’ and ‘Lag Ja Gale’.
During the lockdown, she discovered a new passion, which was cooking delicacies for her family. While her family enjoyed the pancakes and chocolate cake she baked, what topped the list was ‘laal maas’, which is a fiery Rajasthani mutton curry.
The word ‘laal maas’ fueled my innate curiosity, which made me dig through the google search engine and I’d be lying if I didn’t admit that the picture of the dish left me craving for a bite!
